Reply by authors Robichaux and Vittone to Golino on “Ethics: Addressing Error: Partnership in a Just Culture” (April 25, 2023).
Dear Dr. Golino,
Thank you for your comments and insights. We are glad you reached out to us. Please know that our primary intent in writing this column was to address partnership, or lack thereof, in a just culture.
We were originally planning to include a brief reference to the Vaught case but then became aware of Ms. Beasley' s experience and dearth of public and professional attention to her case. The brief reference was to highlight the similarities in responses to these very different cases. We intentionally did not provide extensive details regarding each case but focused on what should be the organization's obligations to advise and support nurses in a fair manner.
We did not intend to characterize Ms. Beasley’s actions as errors and apologize for the misunderstanding.
