Dear Editor:

I read your article on home health ethics entitled "Administrative Ethics: Perspectives on Patients and Community-Based Care" and find it refreshing to be able to respond. I have been a nurse in a hospital for 25 years. My most frustrating discharges are the people who need more help then they and their families are willing to accept. These patients come back to the hospital time after time for the same problems, using many precious and valuable resources in doing so. I believe that if they would be asked to pay for their own hospital bills for each admission, they might accept more help in the beginning.
