This topic is a resource to help nurses take action to become more informed about obesity and to position themselves as role models and educators for their families, communities, and patients. The five articles offer the reader a comprehensive overview of overweight and obesity and include such topics as best nursing practices with practical information for patient care, the pediatric obesity epidemic, obesity in older adults, an overview of bariatric surgery, and best practices for safe patient handling. Each author seeks to maximize the ability of nurses to assist patients toward attaining a healthier life style through education, sensitivity, and knowledge of best practices.

The journal editors invite you to share your response to this OJIN topic. We welcome submission of manuscripts and letters to the editor for additional dialogue regarding obesity epidemic and ways that nurses can be agents of change as our society addresses this ongoing challenge!
